Central African Republic

OUR PROGRAM

Building on work completed through four separate short-term NAP GN technical support requests, the Central African Republic’s in-country support program via the NAP Global Network was established in 2024 in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. It focuses on four key themes—gender integration, communication, peacebuilding, and NAP–NDC alignment—to strengthen the effectiveness of its NAP process, in line with its 2022 preliminary NAP document.

The objectives of the programs were to:

  • develop a NAP communication strategy and raise awareness on the NAP document and process,
  • strengthen the integration of gender in the NAP process,
  • integrate peacebuilding/conflict aspects into the NAP process, and
  • better align the NAP and NDC processes

  • 2024

    • Gender-Responsive Communication Strategy and Newsletter: Developed a communications strategy that integrated gender considerations into the NAP process. The strategy included the publication of a biannual newsletter to raise climate change awareness among national, state, and local stakeholders, ensuring broad understanding and engagement in climate adaptation efforts.
    • Strengthening Capacities on the Gender-Climate Nexus: Enhanced the skills and capacities of institutional actors, women, youth associations, and other key stakeholders to address the intersection of gender and climate change. The effort included the establishment of a multi-stakeholder gender and climate network to promote collaboration and inclusive climate change adaptation solutions.
    • Integration of Peacebuilding and Conflict Considerations in the NAP process: Facilitated the integration of peacebuilding and conflict resolution aspects into the NAP process by conducting conflict analysis and offering recommendations. This is to help ensure that adaptation efforts also contribute to stabilizing conflict-affected areas.
    • Alignment of NAP with NDCs: Conducted a thorough technical and institutional analysis to help align CAR’s NAP with its NDC. This alignment is to help harmonize climate adaptation goals with broader national climate commitments.
